Can you please share a bit about yourself and your background?
I am a non-profit executive who specializes in helping organizations make sense of big data and manage the bottom line.
What would you say is your biggest personal or professional success to date?
During the 2015 federal election I ran in Vancouver Centre as the Conservative candidate. This role required me to step out of my comfort zone and development new skills. Despite not winning my seat I feel I benefitted immensely from this experience. Not only did I get to meet many interesting and influential people, this opportunity compelled me to step out of my career bubble which has served me well going forward.
Can you tell us something about your industry that most people don’t know, or that you wish they knew?
As the Executive Director of Skills Canada BC – an organization that leads and coordinates youth engagement in the trade and technology sectors – I am excited about the new career opportunities I’m seeing for youth in the marketplace.
What motivates you?
Helping those around me be successful motivates me. This requires me to continually invest in my own learning and development.
What is your vision for success in your own life?
Success for me is tied to learning and growth. As long as I’m learning something new and developing my skills I believe I can achieve success in all areas of my life.
How do you spend your time when you need to relax?
Whenever time allows my husband and I love to take cycling holidays. We love cycling around the Gulf Islands and in exotic locations around Europe and Southeast Asia. This Christmas we are planning a cycling trip to either Myanmar or the Philippines. I can’t wait!
Why did you become a member of Terminal city Club?
Swimming is my exercise of choice and TCC has the best pool in Vancouver. The TCC pool was the reason I became a member.
What have you enjoyed the most about the Club so far?
Since becoming a TCC member I have enjoyed making new friends and meeting new people. As TCC has terrific venues for hosting meetings and enjoying a good meal I frequent Cuvée, the Grill, the poolroom, or even one of TCC’s fabulous patios on a regular basis – weather permitting.
Do you have advice for our younger TCC members trying to make their way in the world?
There’s no such thing as perfect timing when you’re looking for the next big thing. When opportunities come around many of us say, “I’m not ready” or “that opportunity is too big for me.” But remember, if you want to move into your next version of success you’ll need to step out of your comfort zone. ■
