Here we are already – October. Our fiscal year has officially ended, and a new one begins. Those last lingering patio days are slipping away, and our neighbours to the south have hit full stride in the race for a new President. Where did those 100 days of summer go? I sincerely hope you were able to spend at least one of them surrounded by friends with a cool drink in your hand, enjoying the pleasures of one of our beautiful Club patios.
The pace inevitably quickens at this time of year, and we had the ultimate fast-paced play-date recently, when we hosted Jordan Harvey and Vancouver Whitecaps FC for a special members’ family event. Harvey and Whitecaps coach Paulo Valdez put our members’ children through their paces for more than an hour. (See page 6 for photos.) By all accounts, the adults had as much fun watching as the kids had participating. This special opportunity was ours as a result of the business partnership we have had with the Whitecaps over the past few years. Our special thanks to the Whitecaps club, and particularly the exceptional team members who made the event so memorable.
Looking forward to more adult-focused events, I must draw your attention to this year’s TCC Gala on November 5. The theme – Scandal – has already caused much chatter and speculation. Very à propos, I would say! (In this context, I understand that Scandal has little to do with the TV series of the same name, and more to do with entertainment, glamour, and walking a fine line…) Much like its predecessor, last year’s 007 Bond gala, Scandal promises to be a night to remember, and definitely one not to be missed. My top two Scandal tips? Book now to avoid disappointment, then dress to impress.
Of course, we must look after business before pleasure. As the fiscal year is wrapping up, I would like to welcome our auditors to the Club this month. It’s a little early to share specific results, but I encourage you all to attend the Club’s AGM in December to hear full details of this year’s performance. At the moment, indicators point to another strong year for the Club, particularly with respect to business from the patios in August and September, and growth in the Lions Pub, as well as another strong year for Catering.
Membership is always a sign of the current and future health of an organization like ours, and I am very pleased that we balloted more than 60 new members in September – more than 200 for the fiscal year. I know you will help me welcome these new members in the weeks and months ahead, as many of them are your friends, colleagues, and associates. Strong membership numbers has been a key target for the Board, and we are encouraged by the steady growth we have seen in this area. On a personal note to all our new members, I’ve been coming to the Club since the 80s with my family and I can truly say that the Club has so much to offer, in so many ways. I hope to have an opportunity to introduce myself and welcome you personally in the weeks ahead.
Last but never least, as holiday season planning starts to creep up, please be sure to remember the opportunities that your Club membership represents. You have access to some of the most exceptional spaces and incredible planning and catering teams in the city. Whether you are hosting an intimate group of four or a company-wide event for 400, we welcome the opportunity to help you deliver an amazing experience.
Thank you for your support, as always. I look forward to seeing you here at the Club this month.
