Dear fellow members,
September means the beginning of shorter and cooler days, and the end of our fiscal year. But the summer weather isn’t quite gone, and I hope that you are making the most of your membership by enjoying some outdoor dining and/or seasonal Club events with your fellow members. Thank you for your support of our patios during these 93 Days of Summer, and of special summer events like weekly BBQs at The Grill; the Dog Days of Summer (my personal favourite); fishing trip; Pinot Camp; the special TCC member opportunity to experience the Honda Celebration of Light from VIP seats; plus many other fun events. All of these events are made better through your participation. Thanks also to our partners at Vancouver Whitecaps FC for loaning us Whitecaps midfielder and national team member Russell Teibert to lead our recent Kids Soccer Drills, the “Best Playdate Ever” – what a fun soccer experience for our members and their families!
As we wrap up the Club’s fiscal year, I’m pleased to report that overall business has remained steady, and our year-to-date financials are solid and on track. Membership numbers have grown to the point where we have almost reached our goal of 1,892 shareholders. At that point, subscription rates will increase, so if you do have friends or colleagues who have been considering membership, please let them know that now is the time to act. A full report on financial and membership numbers will be presented at our Annual General Meeting in December. In the meantime, my thanks to all of you who have introduced people to membership at the Club this year.
There are still plenty of interesting events coming up on the TCC calendar. We are pleased to welcome back Dueling Pianos on Friday, September 21, and look forward to seeing you at the Golf Tournament on Monday, September 24. Looking further ahead, TCC’s annual gala is scheduled for Saturday, November 3: Bond is Back! so clear your calendar and reserve now for this can’t-miss event.
Improvements are also continuing behind the scenes, as always. Maintaining and improving the club’s physical assets is an important task for the TCC Board of Directors. Currently, the board is working on plans to update the club’s Member’s Lounge & Billiards Room. This space has been static for 20 years, so this is a much-needed refresh. Timelines and budgets are being finalized, and details of the temporary closures will be communicated in the coming weeks.
During the renovations, morning coffee service will be moved to The Grill and the Fitness Centre lobby. Access to member liquor lockers will be available the majority of the time, but please check with Member Services if you have specific needs in this regard. Thank you for your patience during this renovation. We look forward to creating an inviting and functional space that you and your and guests will enjoy for years to come.
(Please note that some of the current billiards tables and accompanying overhead lights will be offered for sale to members. If you are interested, please come by the room and have a look, and/or contact Member Services for more details.)
Finally, as our year-end approaches, we are seeking new nominees for the TCC Board of Directors. If you are interested in serving on the Board, please contact Peter Jackman at email@example.com to express your interest, if you have not already done so.
Enjoy these last days summer. I wish you a few more long warm evenings on the patio before the rush of fall begins.
