It seems like all of a sudden, summer is upon us. Festivities for Canada’s 150th year reached a crescendo on July 1, and our Club – in its 125th year – is living up to its full potential as an amazing place to celebrate, with an array of incredible outdoor spaces and a newly updated entry area. This wonderful season is short, so don’t hesitate! I encourage you to take advantage of your opportunity as a member to entertain and enjoy time with friends, family, or colleagues here at the Club.

There is no end to organized Club events that you are welcome to participate in (wine tastings, gourmet dinners, and the TCC Annual Golf Tournament on September 25, for example), but please remember that you can also be the master of your own special summer event here at Terminal City Club. I believe that all of our personal occasions – joyful or serious, family or work, large or intimate – deserve a special setting and meticulous attention to detail. The team here at TCC is at your disposal to ensure unparalleled service, quality, and consistency for any and all of your events. And with 11 meeting spaces, two ballrooms, two restaurants, one pub, one wine lounge, four outdoor patios, six billiards tables, three squash courts, a four-lane 25-metre swimming pool, and a state-of-the-art fitness centre to choose from, I know we can find the perfect space and setting for your group. All you need to do is call!

Speaking of calling, thanks to all of you who have reached out to your networks to spread the word about the value of membership at Terminal City Club. A strong and active member base is the backbone of any club, and with your support, we are ensuring that the vitality of our Club will continue for years to come. If you have additional friends, colleagues, or associates who may enjoy all the Club has to offer, please do invite them to join you at our Prospective Member Event (Open House) on Wednesday, July 19. As an added incentive, both you and any new Resident or Corporate member whom you successfully refer will receive a $250 club credit. To RSVP, contact joinus@tcclub.com.

The long, bright days of summer seem like an odd time to talk about defined benefit pension wind-up, but of course it can’t be all fun and games, even in July. Our thanks to TCC Director of Finance and Facilities, Laura McLachlan, and our partners at Morneau Shepell, for working together to complete the multi-year project of defined benefit pension wind-up efficiently and ahead of schedule. This is another step in maintaining the long-term viability of our Club.

I’ll leave you this month, with a reminder about the fleeting nature of the season. By the time I write my next letter, the days will already be getting shorter and we’ll be trying to squeeze every last drop out of summer. So, quick – if you haven’t had a drink on the Fitness Centre Patio, or enjoyed lunch outside on The Grill patio, do it now! Thinking ahead? Weddings, graduation celebrations, and anniversaries are all being booked now for next summer. Why wait?

I look forward to spotting you on a TCC patio soon.
