Happy New Year!

I hope the holidays have provided an opportunity for you to recharge and spend time doing things you enjoy, so that you can jump into the new year with optimism and enthusiasm.

Personally, I am very enthusiastic about stepping into the role of President of Terminal City Club for 2016. I’m fairly certain that I must be one of the only members to assume such a role while the Club is actually closed (an interesting beginning already…), but I am excited about the updates that will be unveiled in the coming weeks.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Larry Nelson for his leadership as Club President over the past year. Larry carried through a strategic focus on excellent member experience, revenue growth, and cost management. Our past fiscal year’s financial results and net member numbers demonstrate clearly that this is a fruitful path and one that we should continue to pursue. I am committed to working with our current Board and executive to do just that. If the first quarter is any indication, we are on the right track.

In January, we will ballot 36 new members, and we look forward to seeing continued growth in membership over 2016. A few weeks still remain in our “Refer to Win” contest. Although our Club is closed briefly for renovations, there is still much to report. December didn’t slow down for a minute – amongst all the parties and entertaining within the Club, one of the highlights was the fourth annual Christmas Lunch served by TCC staff at Admiral Seymour Elementary School in Strathcona. With financial support from our members, staff prepared and served a full turkey luncheon for the whole school, and provided each student with a Christmas gift. It was a magical day, and a wonderful opportunity for our Club to support children in our local community.

Another December highlight was our role as host venue for the CKNW Orphans’ Fund 2015 Pledge Day. All day, the event was featured on 980 CKNW and Global BC News, and our lobby and ballroom were transformed into a stage for special guests, amazing stories, and telephone pledge-takers. The energy was electric, and our own Board even stepped up to donate over $10,000. At the end of a very long day, more than $2 million was raised to fund the CKNW Orphans’ Fund’s work with needy children throughout B.C.

Turning our attention forward, the new year promises many opportunities for celebration. The water pipe return and drainage project are going as planned according to BMS, and there’s no turning back on the Fitness Centre renovations. Demolition is well underway and CT-1, the contractor on the project, is on schedule. It only goes up from here, and we will look forward to unveiling improved change rooms and wet areas very soon.

In terms of events to put in your calendar, the one that tops my list so far is coming up on the evening of March 31, 2016. Leading up to our Club’s 125 years of rich history, and we will turn back the clocks for a memorable night, including historical culinary experiences and the long-lost art of the perfect Martini. Watch your email for additional details to come, but consider this a save-the-date for March 31 and put it in your calendar now as space is limited to 124 seats!

It’s my honour and pleasure to step into the role of Terminal City Club President for the coming year. I look forward to carrying on the great work done by our Boards over the past few years. I am keen to hear from our members about what’s working and what’s not, so I look forward to seeing you all around the Club.

Dress Code: Smart Casual

Unless otherwise specified, all areas of the Club, including the Grill Room, 1892, Cuvée Wine Bar, patios and private function rooms have a dress code of smart casual. Smart casual attire includes collared or turtle neck shirts, golf or knee length shorts, and dress pants. Similar attire is required for ladies. Denim is acceptable provided a collared shirt is worn and denim is of a solid colour with no fading, tears or patches.

All footwear is to be clean and smart. Casual thong footwear is not permitted outside of the fitness centre.
