Hello Summer! August is here and so too is the Vancouver weather we all love. Extended visits with friends and family over dinners on the patio and the opportunity to enjoy our beautiful city is why this is my favourite time of year. Let’s hope the recent trend of stunning weather sticks with us well into September!

Last month’s TCC Golf Tournament, presented by TD Bank in support of Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation, was a terrific success. It was an excellent day of golf and fun. Kudos to Mr. Kurt Louie’s team on winning the tournament for the fifth year in a row with a score of -17. And a special thank you to Mr. George Frankel for donating his 50/50 winnings to Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation in support of cardiac care.

As the end of our fiscal year draws closer, membership growth continues to be a key focus for your Board of Directors. Over the last two years we have seen a net increase of approximately 150 members. A growing membership allows us to take on projects big and small – like enhancing our locker rooms, or tiling the pool and hot tub – to create a better member experience. Our goal is to grow to 1,892 members, and with your continued support I know we will reach that number in no time! I ask each of you to tap into your network and encourage an interested colleague or friend to take a tour of the Club. The benefits of a strong membership extend to all of us, so please take advantage of this opportunity to help us reach our goal.

Speaking of member benefits, the patios on all four levels of the Club look simply amazing right now. With comfortable furnishings, wonderful food, and sweeping views of the North Shore, they continue to be some of the best outdoor spaces in the city. If you haven’t had an opportunity to enjoy this experience yet (or if you know a friend or colleague who may be interested in seeing the Club), the Member & Prospective Member Wine Tasting on Thursday, August 25 is an absolute must.

Do not miss a very special opportunity to attend an exclusive winemaker’s dinner with Philip McGahan of Checkmate Artisanal Winery on Thursday, September 22. Mr. McGahan will introduce a set single-vineyard Chardonnays described by Anthony Gismondi as “next world” wines that everyone would keep their eyes on.

Throughout my year in the role of TCC President, I have been continually impressed at the dedication of our staff team. Together, they truly make this Club a place I feel I belong. On Monday, August 15, the Club (all restaurants and services, including Lions Pub) will close at 3 p.m. as we show our team our appreciation with an annual Staff BBQ. We very much appreciate your understanding with regard to this special event. I know I speak on behalf of all our members in encouraging our team to keep up the terrific work.

Last but never least, The Grill continues to sell out for the BBQ Buffet on Wednesday lunch and Thursday dinner, so make sure to call ahead for reservations. If you haven’t tried our new weekend brunch, bring your family along and enjoy a swim or a lounge on the spectacular Fitness Centre patio. And of course, don’t forget there’s Happy Hour in Cuvée from 4 – 6 p.m. and live music on Wednesdays during Meet Me at the Bar.

Dress Code: Smart Casual

Unless otherwise specified, all areas of the Club, including the Grill Room, 1892, Cuvée Wine Bar, patios and private function rooms have a dress code of smart casual. Smart casual attire includes collared or turtle neck shirts, golf or knee length shorts, and dress pants. Similar attire is required for ladies. Denim is acceptable provided a collared shirt is worn and denim is of a solid colour with no fading, tears or patches.

All footwear is to be clean and smart. Casual thong footwear is not permitted outside of the fitness centre.
